The Journey
The driver guide departs at 0800hrs to Aberdare National Park, approximately 4 hours from Nairobi. The Aberdares are the third highest range of mountains in Kenya (summit just over 4,000m), well known for thick salient forests and prolific game. Sensational views of the Rift Valley and Mt Kenya's peak await. Very large herds of Elephant and Buffalo move silently through the undergrowth while colobus monkeys dominate the canopy. Enjoy a game drive en route to The Ark Lodge inside the park, arriving in time for lunch. The Ark faces a waterhole that buzzes with wildlife activity throughout the day.
Wake up at 0600hrs for a morning game drive — animals are most active before the blazing sun. Return for breakfast and check-out before heading north to Samburu National Reserve (~223km, 5 hours). Arrive in time for lunch and freshening up. An evening game drive departs at 1545hrs, returning by 1900hrs. Samburu Simba Lodge sits on the spectacular banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River amid doum palms. Spacious rooms have rustic African touches, private plunge pool on deck, hot & cold water, and electricity.
Depart by 0600hrs for an early morning game drive. Samburu lies north of the equator and is home to the Special Five — Beisa Oryx, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk Antelope and the endangered Grevy's Zebra. Other wildlife includes elephants, buffaloes, impalas, secretary birds, guineafowl, and the martial eagle. Optional: cultural visits to local Samburu villages and schools (extra cost). Afternoon at leisure; evening game drive at 1545hrs, returning by 1845hrs.
Breakfast and check-out before boarding the safari vehicle for Lake Nakuru (~310km, ~6.5 hours) with scenic views en route. Arrive for a comprehensive game drive before heading to Lake Nakuru Lodge for late lunch. Lake Nakuru National Park boasts high wildlife density — buffaloes, lions, a huge rhino population, and diverse aquatic birds including flamingos, storks, and pelicans. Evening at leisure to refresh.
Breakfast and check-out before driving to Maasai Mara (~230km, ~4.5 hours). Maasai Mara is one of the most popular wildlife havens in the world, boasting the highest lion population in the region and hosting the annual wildebeest migration (July–September). Arrive in time for late lunch, freshen up, then depart for an evening game drive at 1600hrs, returning before nightfall.
Guests enjoy the entire day at the Mara Reserve with exclusive breath-taking wildlife views. Optional guided bushwalks across the savannah with an armed ranger and Maasai guide (extra cost). Optional activities: hot air balloon safari, horseback safari, and cultural Maasai village visit (extra cost; balloon safaris must be booked a day in advance). Alternatively, return to the lodge in the afternoon to enjoy the amenities.
After breakfast, check out from the camp and board the awaiting safari vehicle for the drive back to Nairobi. Enjoy the scenic drive with unforgettable views of the Great Rift Valley. Upon arrival you will be dropped off at your hotel or airport for your flight back home. ✦ End of our services ✦
